Unique Moments Photography, a Gig Harbor Chamber of commerce member and photography studio owner in the city of Gig Harbor, was Honored to capture this wonderful family wedding at the Club @ the Boatyard in Gig Harbor. This was an all Gig harbor wedding from start to finish. Kathryn and Glenn both attend St Nicholas Catholic Church and the Club @ the Boatyard is a very popular venue for Gig Harbor residents to host weddings and corporate events. So we were extremely excited to have the opportunity to show off our Hometown and the vendors that work and live in Gig Harbor for the wedding industry.
The Boatyard rents a condo that couples can use to get ready at and to spend the night at the venue before the wedding gets here. What a spot. The views overlooking the entire Gig Harbor bay are spectacular. The guys spent the night in one of the yachts that are available to rent. Im told that the yacht that the guys stayed in belonged to the rock legend Steve Miller. So It was a nice treat to get inside and see how the other half gets out and relaxes on the water. All I can say is WOW. What a boat.
Tracie Campbell who owns “Make up by Tracie” was the make up artist who applied make up for the bride and some of her family members. She always does a great job and she frequents our studio for hair and make up needs. She is a very good make up artist and we highly recommend her services.
After hair and make up was completed it was time for a first a first look with dad. It was very emotional. Its always hard for the dads at a wedding. Giving your daughter away is never an easy thing to do and it really tugs on the hearts of fathers of the brides. We can tell you that after capturing over 450 weddings we always pay close attention to these father daughter relationships because they often produce highly emotional imagery. This wedding was no exception.
After everyone was composed it was time to head to St Nicholas Church for the ceremony. This couple wanted to do it ” Old School” all the way so Glenn did not get to see kathryn until she was walking down the isle. Usually its the guys that tend to get a little emotional when we don’t have a first look, however, it was kathryn and dad who were teary eyed coming down the isle. The couple did not have a full mass traditional catholic wedding and elected to have the abbreviated version with out communion. The deacon performed a beautiful ceremony and family and friends were treated to a wonderful ceremony.
Family formals and bridal party formals were captured after the ceremony. Rain was in the forecast for this wedding but we got so lucky again. No rain in sight. The sky’s were threatening all day, a few drops hear and there but no rain. Wow, cant believe it. We have been in Washington for 4 yrs now and 8 yrs in Minnesota. 450 plus weddings and we have never been rained out. So the record is still very much in tact. No rain Outs for Unique Moments Photography. We got lucky for 2017.
After the ceremony and before the reception started, we were able to get out on the harbor and capture some images that kathryn and Glenn wanted. It was a lot of fun and we managed to get several shots in before the reception started. The bride and groom entered the reception venue to a thundering applause from family and friends. The groom who loves to cook and has a catering business made all the food for family and friends. It was simply outstanding. The groom is a commercial fisherman in Alaska in the summertime and the salmon served was direct from Alaska. Just wow. Unbelievable how good the food was. Everyone raved about the food.
Reception Highlights included toasts from best man and Made of honor and from the father of the bride
Then came the dances. The bride and groom had a traditional first dance and the bride danced with her father for a wonderful father daughter dance. But the mother son dance took on significant meaning and was extremely emotional and very difficult to photograph. The grooms mother passed away earlier in the year so this wedding was put off until a more appropriate time. The grooms Grandmother steeped in to fill the shoes of her daughter and grandma and our groom did the mother son dance in her honor. I can tell you there was not a dry eye in the house. After everyone was composed, it was time to have some more fun and everyone vacated to Skansie park for a fireworks exit in front of the giant Christmas tree set up at the park.
This wedding was simply perfect and it is a traditional type wedding that we love to photograph. Weddings are all about two families coming together to celebrate the love of the couple that are getting married. They are both bringing in a new member to their own families and they all have nothing but love in their hearts for their family and friends who come to witness these wonderful events. Weddings are Rights of passage and this wedding had strong religious backing from the church and both families. Its awesome to see the love and support that Kathryn and glenn have from all family members and it was truly an honor to be able to capture this wedding. This wedding was a home run.
